General McLane School District was one of the districts in Erie County, PA that celebrated Read Across America Day this week. General McLane High School sent a group of seniors to be guest student readers to McKean Elementary schools on Monday, March 3.

This marks the eighth year that high school students celebrated Read Across America Day at McKean Elementary.

Read Across America is an award-winning literacy program that was designed to get students excited about reading. The event is held on the school day closest to March 2 ( the birthday of Dr. Seuss) and was founded by the National Education Association in 1997 through a partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P., and Random House. More than 45 million children across the nation are expected to participate—making it the nation’s largest reading celebration.
