Camp Invention Comes to General McLane School District

It’s time for students to grab their thinking hats and get ready for a week of creativity, innovation, real-world problem solving and the spirit of invention.  General McLane School District is offering the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program this summer at Edinboro Elementary School.

“When I first received information about this program, I became excited for the opportunity it provides our young budding scientists and engineers,” said Superintendent Rick Scaletta.  “When I shared the idea with the Board of Education, they too were excited and so we are now the first and only district to offer the program in northwest PA.”

This weeklong summer program is for children grades one through six and features a packed program in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The camp runs 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from June 16 through June 20, 2014 and campers will work in teams as they rotate between four fun thematic modules.

Within this year’s MORPHED™ program, students will have the opportunity to design a small motor-powered vehicle that zooms, invent bionic gadgets while journeying to acquire superhuman senses, receive personalized challenges from National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees and upcycle electronics and build an insect-themed pinball machine. Each module brings new challenges to build upon what was learned the previous day.

Created by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention is the only nationally acclaimed summer enrichment day experience for children entering grades 1 – 6 led by local certified educators, with a great staff ratio of 1:8. The program launched in 1990 and has been hosted at more than 1,200 sites in 49 states. Camp Invention has a 90 percent approval rate by parents, educators and children.

The program costs $220, but campers will receive $25 off if they register before March 28, 2014. Every registration includes a complimentary Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited and the program will open only to General McLane students unless room permits students from other districts. To register, visit or call 800.968.4332.
