Edinboro Elementary students create gingerbread houses virtually

Posted on December 16, 2020, in Academics, Activities, Lancer Life

Mrs. Michelle Androstic’s students at Edinboro Elementary crafted their own gingerbread homes from scratch last week virtually.

“Every year around Christmas, we do a STEM activity where students need to use food materials like graham crackers, frosting and candy to make their own gingerbread house instead of using a boxed kit,” she said.

Since the challenge was virtual, Mrs. Androstic made each student a bag with materials to distribute. Each kit had graham crackers, different frostings, sprinkles, peppermints, gum drops, chocolate chips and marshmallows.

On Dec. 9, the class had its weekly Microsoft TEAMS meeting and each student built their creation from home while we were live on TEAMS.

“We listened to Christmas music together and I got to watch them all build their houses. We had a ton of fun, laughed a lot, used our brains, and the kids even snuck some frosting and candy as a snack while they were building 😁,” Mrs. Androstic said.
