Edinboro fourth graders embraced the season of giving this year. In lieu of the classroom gift exchange and teacher gifts, students and staff were encouraged to buy pajamas for their first Pajama Drive.

The goal of this fundraiser was to provide warm pajamas and a good book to children in need around the area. Scholastic committed to donating a book to go with every pair of pajamas collected from Edinboro Elementary School. These were wrapped by students on Monday and will be delivered to SafeNet for Christmas. More than 70 pairs of PJs were collected.

SafeNet is a non-profit organization providing shelter, counseling, legal advocacy and education to victims of domestic violence.

This is the first year that Edinboro Elementary has participated in this fundraiser. Since 2009, Scholastic Reading Club classrooms have collected and donated almost 350,000 pairs of pajamas to Pajama Program through the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. Scholastic Reading Club has more than matched classroom pajama donations with nearly 700,000 books given directly to the Pajama Program National Headquarters. The books are distributed by Pajama Program to children in need throughout the country. The locations and timing of those book donations are determined by Pajama Program based on the specific needs of their Receiving Organizations.
