EE Teacher Wins VFW Post 740 & District 28 Teacher of the Year Award

Edinboro Elementary teacher Brian Altimier was named this year’s  VFW Post 740 and VFW Distrtict 28 Teacher of the Year.

The VFW annually gives this award to teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism. The VFW recognizes the nation’s top classroom elementary, junior high and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics regularly teaching (at least half of the school day in a classroom environ- ment) and promote America’s history, traditions and institutions effectively.

Altimier annually assists in the planning for the annual Veterans Day Breakfast. Additionally, Altimier served as master of ceremonies for this year’s event. Altimier is also known as Petty Officer Second Class  Altimier of the United States Coast Guard. Over the course of his nineteen years of service Petty Officer Altimier has been deployed to Iraq, Central America, the Caribbean, and the North Atlantic.

Alitmier was presented with this most-prestigious award at Edinboro Elementary last month.
