Representatives from Northwest Savings Bank presented a check for $20,000 to the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) program of the General McLane Foundation on Tuesday.

Enacted by the Pennsylvania Legislature in 2001, the EITC program authorizes tax credits for businesses that make contributions to educational improvement or scholarship organizations. The EITC is administered by Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

The check is the largest ever to the General McLane EITC Program and will be used for efforts in literacy, science and math.

“We are very grateful to Northwest Savings Bank for their generous donation. It will allow us to make some major strides in our literacy programs, helping to assure that students graduate with good reading skills,” said GMSD Superintendent Richard Scaletta.

The General McLane Foundation was founded in 2005 as an organization exclusively for charitable educational purposes that will benefit the students of the General McLane School District. Each year, the Foundation hosts the Holiday Arts Fair and the Golf Outing – two major fundraising events that help fund scholarships to graduating seniors.
