General McLane High School senior Emily Tworek has been named a National Merit Semifinalist. As a National Merit Semifinalist, Tworek qualified among the highest-scoring PSAT in the country for the PSAT.

Approximately 16,000 semifinalists were named in the 61st Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered in the Spring. To be considered a Merit Scholarship® award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholarship title.

The National Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. Its goal is to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage the pursuit of acamdeic excellence.

Congratulations to Emily on this outstanding accomplishment!
