Students at General McLane High School attended the 2014 Tech Fest and Manufacturing Day at Precision Manufacturing Institute.

This event focuses on the advanced careers and opportunities within the manufacturing industry for youth and adults.  Highlights included:

  • Machine and sofeware technologies demonstrations
  • Breakout sessions featuring manufacturing information technology, additive manufacturing, and enhancing your business
  • Robotic demonstrations
  • 3-D printing demonstrations
  • Continuing education options for new and incumbent workers

The Erie Regional Career Readiness Report, as part of the Regional Career Planning Project, reported that the Manufacturing Industry is the largest industry in Erie and leads in wages by 36% over the next closest industry in healthcare.   The Regional Career Planning Project was initiated in 2013 when the school districts in the Erie region came together to convert districts to a “career-driven education” model over the course of three years. To do this, the districts will utilize a personalized, electronic counseling tool, WIN’s My Strategic Compass.
