For the first time since 2004, General McLane High School had a pair of place winners in the PIAA State Tournament.

Ethan Laird finished his career as a PIAA 195 lbs State Runner Up after a 3-1 loss to North Allegheny’s Jake Woodley in the finals. Laird became the program’s most successful wrestler after a 6-3 win against Waynesburg’s Colin McCracken during the first round of the PIAA Class 3A tournament at the Giant Center. His victory was the 136th of his career.  Hayden Harrison  (’04) previously held the program’s most wins by a Lancer with 135.

Owen Watkins placed 8th in the state for the 152 lbs class. Watkins lost 2-1 to  Mechanicsburg’s Brayden Wills for seventh place.

Both students are seniors at General McLane High School and plan to wrestle at the collegiate level.

Congratulations to Ethan and Owen!
