General McLane High School teacher Michael Smrekar received the Golden Apple Award today.

Colton Morosky nominated Mr. Smrekar, who has worked as a health and physical education teacher at General McLane for thirty-one years.

The GOLDEN APPLE AWARD program is a tradition at JET-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania. JET-TV, in partnership with Edinboro University, honors local educators who have made a positive impact upon the youth of our community. Students submit written nominations explaining why they are nominating a teacher. Each week during the school year, JET-TV visits an area school to announce the winner.

This honor will air Wednesday, March 21 on Action News24 at 6:00 p.m., and the story airs again on Thursday morning, March 22 on Action News 24 between 5:30 and 7:00 a.m.

Congratulations to Mr. Smrekar!
