Helping Hometown Heroes

McKean Elementary’s Hometown Heroes project for the Erie VA Medical Center Welcome Home Fund ended last week.  These Erie County students raised a total of $718 for the local veterans.

The project was this year’s community fundraiser that McKean Elementary’s gifted students selected. All of the money from the fundraiser will benefit local Veterans who have returned from active duty in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Operation New Dawn. The Welcome Home Fund helps provide therapeutic support to inpidual Veterans and their families, educational opportunities, and valuable assistance with transitioning to civilian life.

Students sold red, white or blue stars that were then used to create an American flag mural. The mural will be donated to the Erie VA Medical Center.

Way to go!
