JWPMS Students Perform the Musical “Oklahoma!”

Posted on February 25, 2014, in Lancer Life

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s landmark American musical “Oklahoma!” has been reborn into a James W. Parker Middle School musical production — and it takes place this week at 7 p.m. from February 25-26 in the GMHS Auditorium.

Directed by JWPMS teacher Kate Amatuzzo, this play portrays romances and rivalries during the beginning of the twentieth century in the Oklahoma territory. Cast members include Delaney Gatenby (playing Laurey Williams), Jesse Nathanson (playing Curly McLain), Zach Gray (playing Jud Fry), Taylor Downlen (playing Ado Annie), Gabriel Bayle (playing Will Parker) and Melina Walter (playing Aunt Eller), just to name a few.

Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play and turned into an Academy Award-winning film in 1955.

There will be a basket raffle, concessions, and Flower & Candy Grams to send to your favorite cast member at the performances this week. T-shirts will also be on sale in the lobby before and after the performance.
