JWPMS students sell Thankful Grams this week

James W. Parker Middle School students, faculty and staff had the opportunity to make others feel extra special this week.

Students sold Thankful Grams during lunch. All staff and students in the building had the opportunity to purchase a Thankful Gram (M&M’s) for $1.00 to be delivered to anyone within the building at the end of the school day. The Thankful Gram included a special message of thanks to the recipient from the sender.

This was a fundraiser of the Life Skills classroom, as students learned to take orders, handle money, fulfill the order and then deliver the order. The sale was a huge success – the students sold 1,866 bags of M&M’s in four days!

This activity was made possible by Bill and Mary Smith Grant, a grant of the General McLane Foundation. Mrs. Plouse won this grant last year, which helped her purchase a cash register, cash register tape, perishable products, printer paper, markers and labels.

Superintendent Richard Scaletta visited the classroom on Wednesday to get an inside scoop on how Thankful Grams were sold and processed.

Way to go students!
