MATHCOUNTS team places 4th

The James W. Parker Middle School MATHCOUNTS team placed 4th place at the competition this past weekend.

Hosted by the Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), the MATHCOUNTS competition took place in the Zurn Science Center at Gannon University. MATHCOUNTS is a fun and challenging competition designed to engage students into the engineering and mathematics fields.

Participating sixth, seventh and eighth graders compete in four rounds that included both written and oral examinations and tested their skills in algebra, geometry, probability, and equations, among others. This year, 133 students from 19 schools registered.

JWPMS students included: Ethan Zajac-Woodie (8th), Caleb Minner (7th), Zachary Rolland (7th), Joe Preston (8th), Adrianna Evankovich (8th), Elena Halmi (8th), Kellen Smith (8th), Rachel Wooten (7th), Dylan Throop (8th), Benjamin Kalmey (8th),  and Avery VanDyke (7th). MS teacher Monica Mook serves as the advisor.

Zajac-Woodie competed in the Countdown Round, which featured the top 10 students in a live head-to-head competition and places seventh.

In addition, Zajac-Woodie, Evankovich, Halmi and VanDyke finished in the top 25% of competitors.
