In honor of April being Autism Awareness month, McKean Elementary is hosting a series of events for Autism Awareness.

On April 2, all students were encouraged to wear blue to show support for “Light It Up Blue” day, a unique global initiative that kicks-off Autism Awareness Month and helps raise awareness about autism.

McKean Elementary is also raising money for the 13th Annual Walk for Autism, which will be held at Presque Isle on Saturday, April 26th at 9:30 a.m. This walk raises money for the Autism Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Students will bring in spare change to his/her classroom through April 15.

The Autism Awareness/”Pie the Principal” Assembly will be on Tuesday April 15th @ 2:30 p.m., when a student from each grade level will get to “Pie the Principal”. This assembly also incorporates the AARFS theme of citizenship. Students will discuss the importance to treat all people with respect, despite our individual differences.
