McKean Elementary School received a banner for its commitment to their Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) literacy program.

McKean’s MTSS Process is designed to meet the needs of elementary age students experiencing literacy difficulties in school. The team reviews school-wide universal screening data and other district assessments for students and develops strategies that address the students’ needs in the regular classroom setting.

The School just completed a 5-year comprehensive review of their literacy program.  With support and training provided by the Northwest Tri-County IU 5, PaTTAN and the 95% Group, McKean Elementary staff worked to ensure they were providing the most valid and reliable instruction to their students.  The banner was awarded by PA’s Bureau of Special Education in recognition of their hard work and dedication to meeting the literacy needs of all their students.

McKean Elementary School’s MTSS Program was recently highlighted as Model Program through the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit #5 and has been recognized by Edinboro University’s School of Education.
