McKean Run Club held their annual run at Edinboro University this weekend.

Students in kindergarten through second grade ran a half mile and students in third and fourth grades ran a mile. About sixty students were in attendance and each student finished their race! The event took place in Edinboro’s Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Center Dome.

The EUP Track and Field teams helped as part of their athletic programs community service initiative. These athletes help and mentor the students for positive behaviors through physical activity.

The event culminated the Winter Run Club, an after-school program for students in k-4. Coordinated by McKean Elementary teacher Lisa Roberts, more than 110 students in grades k-4 participate in each winter session on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month.

The McKean Elementary Run Club and the Spring Recess Laps program started as part of McKean Elementary’s 2013 grant from the ING Run for Something Better School Awards Program. Roberts started the program to help students increase their physical activity.
