General McLane School District took the top team award, and senior Cory Kephart placed second at the Erie County Teen Safe Driving Competition on Monday.

Sponsored by PA Motor Truck Association, XPO Logistics, the NW Regional Highway Safety Network, Nationwide Agribusiness, Allied Insurance and Kingsley Blasco & Associates Insurance Agency, this competition gives students in Erie and Crawford counties the opportunity to proudly demonstrate their road knowledge and driving skills, while possibly winning prizes of up to $1,000. Students with at least a one year unblemished driving record – no crashes and no moving violations (parking tickets do not disqualify) are eligible to compete.

Students apply at the school level and the top three advance to the competition. This year, 13 students applied to represent General McLane in the competition. The top three selected for the school’s team included Kephart, Rachel Pamula and Nate Myers and they won the team trophy for highest accumulative score. This was the first time in three years that the District has had a full team to the competition.

Kephart is automatically eligible to go the State Teen Driving Championship in Camp Hill, PA, on Monday, May 12th. Pamula, who missed third place by one point, is on the reserve list and advances if any of the first second or third place winners cannot attend. At the state level, a $5,000 scholarship is awarded to the top prize winner; second place is $3,000, and third place is a $2,000 scholarship.

Congratulations to our winners and good luck at the state level!
