TEAMS advances to nationals

General McLane High School will have two different groups of students advance to the national TEAMS (Tests of engineering aptitude in mathematics and science) competition.

TEAMS is an annual competition for middle and high school students designed to help them discover their potential for engineering. Students apply math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges during a one-day competition, .

This year’s competition, “Engineering the Environment,” explored areas such as energy efficiency, geothermal heatpumps and wastewater treatment.

Team A took 2nd place overall in the state with a total score of 189.67 and a perfect score on the essay. Team A members are: Joel Linebach (Captain), Dylan Kosienski, Ruby Spada, Derek Hecker, Evan Vincent, Julia Wasielewski, Maddie Dillen and Tony Mathie.

Team B took 16th place overall in the state with a score of 167.19 and exceeded the cut score. Team B members are: Maddison Schutt (Captain), Dan Teed, Alex Lofgren, Brad Yoder, Simon Zehr, Logan Segal and Zach Gray and Jesse Nathanson.

The national TEAMS competition takes place in Orlando Florida on June 21, 22 and 23.
