WJET-TV meteorologists Tom Atkins and Tom DiVecchio visited James W. Parker Middle School on Thursday to speak to fifth grade students about the importance of scientists, especially meteorologists.

Atkins and DiVecchio shared some information about what they do at the TV station and some other important weather facts — including the largest hail they have ever seen, the biggest snow storms and their predictions on Winter 2015. Students also had the chance to ask questions directly to the meteorologists. Did you know that the largest snowfall recorded in 24 hours in Erie was in 1944 with 26.5 inches? Or that the 2000-2001 season, Erie received 149 inches, with Edinboro and McKean recording 200 plus inches of snow that year?

JWPMS teacher Laurie Santos is the Edinboro weather watcher for the station and orchestrated the event.
